Privacy Policy

Effective date: July 1, 2026

This document is available in English.

Your full selfie stays on your device. Only a cropped image of your lip area is sent to generate your preview.

At Lips Up, your privacy is our priority. This Privacy Policy explains what data we handle when you use Lips Up. By using the app, you agree to the practices described below.

1. How the Photo Flow Works

Lips Up is built around a privacy-first photo flow. Here is what actually happens when you generate a visualization:

  • You take or pick a selfie. The full selfie stays on your device and is never uploaded.
  • On-device face detection finds your lips and crops a small image of just the mouth area.
  • Only that cropped mouth image is sent to our AI provider for processing.
  • The AI returns an enhanced version of the mouth crop, which the app composites back onto your original on-device photo.
  • The generated result is saved only on your device. It is not uploaded or stored on our servers.

2. Face Data

LipsUp uses on-device face detection to locate your lips within your selfie. This detection runs entirely on your device. We do not store, share, or sell facial-geometry or facial-recognition data, and we do not use it to identify you. To generate your preview, only a cropped image of your lip area is sent for processing (see 'Third-Party Processing' below); your full face is never uploaded. Retention: face-landmark data is used only on-device and is not retained by us. Deletion and revoking consent: you can decline data-sharing consent at any time (previews cannot be generated without it), and you can delete all your data at any time using Delete Account in the app's Settings, which removes your local photos and results and deletes your user record from our servers. Any third party that processes this data provides protection equal to or greater than described in this policy.

3. Third-Party Processing

To create your lip preview, LipsUp sends data to a third-party processing provider. What is sent: a cropped image containing only your lip/mouth region, plus the selected enhancement level - your full photo, your identity, and the rest of your face are not sent. Who it is sent to: Google LLC (Gemini image-generation API), acting as our image-processing provider. Purpose: solely to generate the visual preview you requested. Permission: the app asks for your explicit consent before any image is sent; if you decline, previews are not generated. Retention: the cropped image is processed transiently to create your result and is not stored on our servers. Protection: Google processes this data under its own terms and provides protection equal to or greater than described in this policy. We do not send your data to any other third-party processing or AI service.

4. Information We Collect

2.1 Anonymous Account Identifier. Lips Up uses anonymous authentication. We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or password. To manage your session and your usage limits, we generate a random anonymous identifier that is tied to your install of the app.

2.2 Usage Metadata. We store a small amount of metadata about your scans so the app can enforce subscription limits and improve the experience. This includes:

  • The number of scans you have generated
  • Timestamps for those scans
  • Basic app and device information (e.g. app version)

2.3 Cropped Mouth Image (Processed In Transit Only). When you generate a visualization, a small cropped image of your mouth area is transmitted to our AI provider for processing. This image is used to generate your result and is not stored on our servers after the request completes.

2.4 Subscription Status. We receive your subscription status (active, expired, trial, etc.) from the App Store via our subscription management provider. We do not see or store your payment card details — those are handled entirely by Apple.

2.5 Optional Onboarding Preferences. During onboarding, the app may ask about your age range, lip goals, and lip concerns to personalize the experience. These answers are stored locally on your device and are used only to personalize the app.

5. What We Do Not Collect

We do not collect any of the following:

  • Full face photos or selfies
  • Your name, email address, or phone number
  • Your contacts, location, or calendar
  • Advertising identifiers
  • Payment or card information

6. Third-Party Processors

To deliver the service, a limited amount of data is shared with trusted third parties:

6.1 Google — Gemini 2.5 Flash Image API. The cropped mouth image is sent through our backend to Google's Gemini 2.5 Flash Image API, which generates the enhanced visualization. Only the cropped mouth region is transmitted - never the full selfie. Google's handling of API data is governed by their API terms and privacy policies, available at https://ai.google.dev/gemini-api/terms and https://policies.google.com/privacy.

6.2 Backend & Subscription Providers. We use trusted backend and subscription management providers to operate the app's authentication, request proxying, and subscription status. These providers process only the data described in Section 4 and do not receive your full selfie or any identifying personal information.

6.3 Apple — App Store. All in-app purchases and subscriptions are processed by Apple. Lips Up never receives your payment card details. Apple's privacy policy applies to those transactions.

6.4 Analytics (PostHog). We use PostHog to understand how the app is used so we can improve it. This collects anonymous usage events (for example, which screens you view and which buttons you tap) linked to a random identifier. It does not collect your photos, which always stay on your device. Analytics data is processed in the United States and is never sold. You are not tracked across other apps or websites.

7. Data Retention

  • Cropped mouth image: discarded once the API call returns. Not stored on our servers.
  • Anonymous identifier & usage metadata: retained until you delete your account from within the app.
  • Generated results & original photos: stored only on your device. Deleted when you delete them or uninstall the app.
  • Onboarding preferences: stored only on your device.

8. Your Rights

You can delete your account at any time from within the app (Settings → Delete Account). This permanently:

  • Removes your anonymous identifier and all associated usage metadata from our backend
  • Deletes all generated photos and original photos saved on your device
  • Clears all on-device onboarding preferences

Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to request access to, correction of, or restriction of the limited data we hold. To make any such request, contact us via our contact page at https://www.launchd.online/contact.

9. Children

Lips Up is rated 17+ and is intended for users aged 18 and older. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect any information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has used the app, please contact us and we will delete any associated data.

10. Data Security

We use industry-standard security measures to protect the limited data we handle, including encrypted transport between the app, our backend, and our AI provider. No system can be guaranteed 100% secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.

11. Updates to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date below and, where appropriate, notify you in the app.
